How to Make an Artist Smile?

I just finished another vinyl record painting for my show next month at the Sierra Club here in Albuquerque. I made a shortened time lapse video for it, started about half way through. Once again, the music is an original composition by my husband, Aaron M. Lewis. I have 3 more to finish by the end of July. The new records won’t be available for purchase until the show, but you can see more of my record paintings on my WEBSITE.

I am gearing up for a Summer Art Clearance Sale this week. I’m putting up special pages on my website for the sale and there is only one way you can get that special link. Go to my website, www.PaulaManningLewis.com, and sign up on my email list. The sale will run through the rest of the Summer, but sign up now! There will be original paintings, prints, coloring books, art pillows and dolls. I’m clearing out the studio to make room for new work. I don’t have enough storage space to keep everything. Everything on sale will be 50% off!

This past Saturday was the reception for my mural painting at Sandy and Jeff’s house. Not a lot of people showed up, but one couple has told me they want a mural at their house too. That was just enough to make me smile! Hoping to get started on that one after I get everything done for the August show. Once it cools off a little! Stay tuned for more on that! πŸ™‚

How Does an Artist Support a Cause?

There are many ways to do this, but they all involve ART! I donate to several causes throughout the year. Either by donating a piece for a silent auction or by giving a percentage of sales to the cause. This Summer I’m helping a couple GREAT causes!

Strat guitar painting

My latest recycled guitar painting. This will also be my first PLAYABLE guitar painting once it’s done! Showing at the Sierra Club in August.

If you’ve been following the blog, you know I currently have 22 pieces showing at the New Mexico Cancer Center Gallery With a Cause until August 25th. 40% of the sales will benefit the NMCC Foundation. This wonderful foundation helps cancer patients cover non-medical expenses while they are in treatment. Great cause, right?! I’m honored to be included in such an amazing show with over 20 other awesome artists. You can see the pieces I have in the show on the NMCC Gallery With a Cause website. If you see something you like, just give them a call and they will handle the sale. You can also buy direct from my website and the 40% will still be donated to the cause.

Another cause near and dear to me is the environment, our wilderness areas and public lands. I regularly donate to the Sierra Club because I feel we need to protect our Mother Earth. From the Sierra Club, Rio Grande Chapter website:

The Rio Grande Chapter of the Sierra Club is a volunteer-led organization representing more than 7,000 members in New Mexico and West Texas. Our mission is to explore, enjoy and protect the planet, and we prioritize action on protecting our climate, clean air, clean water, and conservation of wildlife and public lands in New Mexico and West Texas.”

Recycled Vinyl Record Painting

Recycled Vinyl Record painting, finished today, this one will also be shown at the Sierra Club in August.

I am showing my art at the local Albuquerque offices of the Sierra Club in August. I’m excited about this exhibit, as I will be showcasing my recycled art. A recently painted guitar and my recycled vinyl paintings will be featured. The opening reception will be the First Friday in August. I’m not sure just yet how much of sales will go to the Sierra Club, but I will let you know as soon as I do. I will share more information about this show in the coming month.

Mural Time Lapse

I recently spent 5 days and around 15-20 hours painting this mural at a private residence in Albuquerque. It was SO MUCH FUN! The couple I painted it for, Jeff and Sandy Wade, were really awesome. They were thrilled with their mural and we are planning a small reception to unveil the mural to friends, family and collectors on July 8th. The mural is in their backyard, so it’s impossible to just drive by and see it. I may still paint another one on the front patio wall too, so we shall see!

It was HOT out there in the sun, lucky for me, the Wades have an EZ Up canopy that provided wonderful shade and brought the temps down at LEAST 10 degrees. It did however, make it difficult to film the video so don’t mind the different angles and cropped views!

I am REALLY enjoying painting large! I have another mural possibly coming up soon. I still have to submit sketches for design ideas and see if the building owner likes my plans. This one will be on the west side of the building my art studios are in. This will be a much more public mural, located on Central Ave. SE in Albuquerque.

The music in the video was composed and recorded by my husband, Aaron M. Lewis. The titles of the two songs are “Friday Dance” and “Gather Round”, both are from his upcoming CD “Many Me”. Click on his name above to check out his website! πŸ™‚

I have also had a design approved to paint a mural at a local high school. However, school just let out for the Summer, so I don’t think I will get to that one anytime soon.

It may be needless to say, but I am now open for mural commissions! I will take the first few murals at the low price of $10 per square foot, plus the cost of supplies. Once I get a few under my belt, the price will go up to $20 per square foot. If you are thinking you may want me to paint one for you, get it now while the price is good! πŸ˜‰

Enjoy the video, and please let me know what you think! Have a wonderful rest of your day!

New Mexico Cancer Center Gallery Show

"Find Your Shine", 24 x 30" oil on canvas, $1,050

“Find Your Shine”, 24 x 30″ oil on canvas, $1,050, just one of the 22 images in the show

On June 3rd I spent the morning with around 20 other artists, hanging our pieces at the NM Cancer Center for the Summer show, “Artists on the Rise”. Below is the flyer with all the information about the opening reception, “Walk and Talk” event and gallery hours. The gallery is open by appointment only out of respect for the privacy of the patients receiving treatment. Please join us for the opening THIS Sunday from 4-7pm. I would greatly appreciate your votes for the People’s Choice award! This show has been a long time coming, I first applied to show here several years ago. I’m excited to show/sell my work for a great cause! New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation is a non-profit organization solely dedicated to raising funds to alleviate non-medical needs for cancer patients. 40% of each art sale goes to the foundation and is tax-deductible. See you there! Even if you can’t make it to the show, of any and all sales of the 22 pieces I have showing, 40% will go to the NM Cancer Center Foundation. Whether you purchase at the show, or on my website.

Mural Sketch in Progress

The video above is the sketch for the mural I’m getting ready to start. This small 12 x 12″ painting is 1/10th the size the mural will be. It will be painted on an outside wall on the back patio. The people I’m painting it for have a very lovely garden yard and I am excited to see how my art will look among the trees and flowers. I picked Spring colors for that very reason. Then, even when it’s not Spring, they will be reminded of the yard when it’s in bloom! The idea is that the Sun mural will shine year round. I hope they like the design. πŸ™‚

Now that I’m all finished with the work for the NM Cancer Center Gallery show, I’m switching gears to start work on a mural job I’m very excited to get started! I do have another art show to get ready for, but that deadline is in July and I don’t have as many pieces to get together for it. However, I will be starting a new guitar painting for that show, very soon!

My art show in August is at the local Albuquerque Sierra Club offices. I’ve decided to make it a recycled art show, with the center piece being one of my guitar paintings. There will also be plenty of recycled vinyl record paintings too! πŸ™‚

Tornadoes and Timelapse!

We took a weekend trip out of town last weekend. It was so nice to get out of town for a few days! On our way back to Albuquerque there was a pretty big storm up north of us and as we drove further, I could see a little wisp of cloud coming down from the storm clouds. As we came closer, the little tail of a cloud turned into a full on funnel cloud! We stopped just off the hwy as we drove through Carrizozo to take photos and I was able to film a pretty decent video of the funnel cloud (tornado!).

I posted the video on instagram and was pleasantly surprised to get several requests from news channels, including The Weather Channel, to use my video on their broadcasts! I was pretty excited about it, but I didn’t expect it at all!

The NM Cancer Center Show is coming up quick! I have to get my images in by the 15th, so I only have time to finish up the paintings I’m currently working on. I took a short time lapse of one of the paintings today. Almost done!

Work in progress, 20x20" oil on canvas

Work in progress, 20×20″ oil on canvas

Next up, I have to get busy painting for my show at the Sierra Club offices in August. Stay tuned for lots of works in progress and videos coming up. . .

Two Paintings in Time-lapse

The past couple of weeks I’ve been busily working on two new paintings in preparation for the New Mexico Cancer Center Gallery show opening in June. I usually work on more than one painting at a time. Because I work in layers, there is always time in between waiting for the oil paints to dry. While I wait for a layer to dry on one painting, I start and work on another painting. I go back and forth between the two until I finish. I’ve been taking short clips of time lapse while working on these two and figured it might be cool to show you the back and forth. These videos are mixed in the order they were taken. My goal is to finish these paintings this week and next week I will start on the next two. The four new paintings will be added to the 21 I already have ready to go for a total of 25 paintings in the show. I hope you enjoy the video and please feel free to share!
