Mural Time Lapse

I recently spent 5 days and around 15-20 hours painting this mural at a private residence in Albuquerque. It was SO MUCH FUN! The couple I painted it for, Jeff and Sandy Wade, were really awesome. They were thrilled with their mural and we are planning a small reception to unveil the mural to friends, family and collectors on July 8th. The mural is in their backyard, so it’s impossible to just drive by and see it. I may still paint another one on the front patio wall too, so we shall see!

It was HOT out there in the sun, lucky for me, the Wades have an EZ Up canopy that provided wonderful shade and brought the temps down at LEAST 10 degrees. It did however, make it difficult to film the video so don’t mind the different angles and cropped views!

I am REALLY enjoying painting large! I have another mural possibly coming up soon. I still have to submit sketches for design ideas and see if the building owner likes my plans. This one will be on the west side of the building my art studios are in. This will be a much more public mural, located on Central Ave. SE in Albuquerque.

The music in the video was composed and recorded by my husband, Aaron M. Lewis. The titles of the two songs are “Friday Dance” and “Gather Round”, both are from his upcoming CD “Many Me”. Click on his name above to check out his website! 🙂

I have also had a design approved to paint a mural at a local high school. However, school just let out for the Summer, so I don’t think I will get to that one anytime soon.

It may be needless to say, but I am now open for mural commissions! I will take the first few murals at the low price of $10 per square foot, plus the cost of supplies. Once I get a few under my belt, the price will go up to $20 per square foot. If you are thinking you may want me to paint one for you, get it now while the price is good! 😉

Enjoy the video, and please let me know what you think! Have a wonderful rest of your day!

Our wedding day, June 10, 1997

Our wedding day, June 10, 1997

I married the love of my life! This Saturday is our 20th anniversary. It has flown by, I still cannot believe all the life we have lived together. I am so grateful to have found my soulmate during this lifetime! June is a crazy month for us, yesterday was Aaron’s birthday (Father’s day coming up soon!), so we took it somewhat easy and spent some time with our grandson in the afternoon. He was in a happy mood, so it was a blast. It’s so much fun being a grandparent! What is it they say? If I had known it would be this much fun, I would have done this part first! lol. Aaron and Ben took a little nap together yesterday and I was able to snap my new favorite photo of the two of them.

I started on the mural last Friday and have had a few days to work on it so far. Of course the weather decided to be nice and HOT this week! Luckily for me, the homeowners have an Ez-up canopy they put up for shade and lots of ice cold lemonade. Sandy and Jeff have been really great during the whole process, thanks guys! This photo was taken this morning before I started painting again. The green sections have been started since I took this one. I’m filming a time lapse of the whole process, I will share it once it’s complete. I’m so excited about getting this finished up! It’s coming out even better than I had hoped. The texture of the stucco adds a cool dimension to the painting, though it does make it MUCH more difficult to paint. Lots of drip spots to touch up once I’m done. It’s been so freeing to paint this big, I think I’m hooked, murals only from now on! Just kidding of course, but I wouldn’t mind it so much. 😉

Progress on the mural!

Memorial Day, Murals and Guitars

I hope everyone had a good Holiday weekend. I’m working through it so we can go camping this week. We always go camping the week AFTER Memorial day. We are the kind of campers that want to get away from everyone! Even in New Mexico, that is impossible to do Memorial Day weekend, so we wait until Tuesday when everyone else is back at work.

I’m writing this blog ON Memorial Day and remembering all the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I was in the military during Desert Storm and personally knew a few of those people. I will never forget them, their sacrifice or the families they left behind.

Over the weekend, I started my guitar painting for the Sierra Club show in August. I’ve had this Strat body sitting in my studio for literally YEARS! It has been patiently waiting for me to make it beautiful. It is still in progress and I’m hoping to make this one my first playable guitar painting. I’m counting on my husband to help me with building the guitar from the empty solid body it is now. I’m showing only recycled art at the Sierra Club, because what better place to promote recycling, right?

On Friday, I will be getting started on the mural project I’ve been writing about for the last couple months. I have created the design and have approval to get started! I’m really excited about painting LARGE! 10 x 10 feet large! I plan on making a time lapse video of the whole process so stay tuned. I may share bits and pieces of it during the process.

Mural Sketch in Progress

The video above is the sketch for the mural I’m getting ready to start. This small 12 x 12″ painting is 1/10th the size the mural will be. It will be painted on an outside wall on the back patio. The people I’m painting it for have a very lovely garden yard and I am excited to see how my art will look among the trees and flowers. I picked Spring colors for that very reason. Then, even when it’s not Spring, they will be reminded of the yard when it’s in bloom! The idea is that the Sun mural will shine year round. I hope they like the design. 🙂

Now that I’m all finished with the work for the NM Cancer Center Gallery show, I’m switching gears to start work on a mural job I’m very excited to get started! I do have another art show to get ready for, but that deadline is in July and I don’t have as many pieces to get together for it. However, I will be starting a new guitar painting for that show, very soon!

My art show in August is at the local Albuquerque Sierra Club offices. I’ve decided to make it a recycled art show, with the center piece being one of my guitar paintings. There will also be plenty of recycled vinyl record paintings too! 🙂

Tornadoes and Timelapse!

We took a weekend trip out of town last weekend. It was so nice to get out of town for a few days! On our way back to Albuquerque there was a pretty big storm up north of us and as we drove further, I could see a little wisp of cloud coming down from the storm clouds. As we came closer, the little tail of a cloud turned into a full on funnel cloud! We stopped just off the hwy as we drove through Carrizozo to take photos and I was able to film a pretty decent video of the funnel cloud (tornado!).

I posted the video on instagram and was pleasantly surprised to get several requests from news channels, including The Weather Channel, to use my video on their broadcasts! I was pretty excited about it, but I didn’t expect it at all!

The NM Cancer Center Show is coming up quick! I have to get my images in by the 15th, so I only have time to finish up the paintings I’m currently working on. I took a short time lapse of one of the paintings today. Almost done!

Next up, I have to get busy painting for my show at the Sierra Club offices in August. Stay tuned for lots of works in progress and videos coming up. . .

Two Paintings in Time-lapse

The past couple of weeks I’ve been busily working on two new paintings in preparation for the New Mexico Cancer Center Gallery show opening in June. I usually work on more than one painting at a time. Because I work in layers, there is always time in between waiting for the oil paints to dry. While I wait for a layer to dry on one painting, I start and work on another painting. I go back and forth between the two until I finish. I’ve been taking short clips of time lapse while working on these two and figured it might be cool to show you the back and forth. These videos are mixed in the order they were taken. My goal is to finish these paintings this week and next week I will start on the next two. The four new paintings will be added to the 21 I already have ready to go for a total of 25 paintings in the show. I hope you enjoy the video and please feel free to share!

"High Vibrations", 12 x 12" oil on canvas, SOLD!

My latest finished painting, “High Vibrations”, 12 x 12″ oil on canvas, SOLD!

Once again I have fallen off my blogging schedule! UGH! So much going on right now. I guess I thrive on the chaos. Life is more exciting with more going on, right?

I finished a new painting today, so figured it would be a great time to post a new blog. I was thrilled to have this painting sold before it was finished. I love it when that happens! I posted a bit of timelapse video to my Instagram today as I was finishing it up.

I was recently invited to show in the Summer show at the New Mexico Cancer Center Gallery. I’m really pleased with this, as I have been trying to get into the gallery for at least 7 years! The NMCCG is the largest gallery in the state of New Mexico. I will have at least 20 pieces in the show with room for more. Needless to say, I have a LOT of painting to do. I am also showing at the local Sierra Club offices in August. The two shows overlap, so I have to have at least 30 paintings available by then.

I am currently working on a NEW website which is taking more time than I had hoped, but it’s going to be awesome! Once it’s done, my Etsy shop will close because I will have the ability to sell directly from my site. I have been searching for a solution for my website for literally, YEARS! I finally found it in Art Storefronts. They have everything I ever wanted in a website. Stay tuned for my new and improved site, hopefully launching by the end of March.

Along with the new website, I’ve been busy working on ChromaFEST, an art and music festival fundraiser for my other business, Chroma Studios. We are raising money to help us buy a building for our studios. We currently lease space and need more, so purchasing our own commercial building just makes sense. We have been in business for almost 9 years, it’s time for expansion.

I’ve also been spending as much time as possible with my almost 2 month old grandson. It’s so much fun being a grandma!
