Creativity: Dusting off my brushes

Purple Peace sign oil painting in progress

Purple Peace Sign, work in progress

It has been almost a year since I painted! Way too long! I have blank canvases staring at me accusingly. Why do I neglect them? I cannot remember why I stopped, I guess I was ready for something different. I’ve really enjoyed creating with my sewing machine and I’m definitely not done with that tangent. Once a painter, always a painter.

Eventually, that old passion is reignited and the brushes must be dusted off! Today was that day. I’ve been feeling an urge to paint peace signs again recently, so this is where I started. This painting is still in progress and I’m not totally sure it will make the final cut into my portfolio. Sometimes, it’s just about getting back in the groove. Sometimes, paintings are painted over because they don’t reach my standards. This one may or may not, that is yet to be seen.

I will let you know. πŸ™‚

Stages of a work in progress

I’ve been busy painting in my studio the past few weeks and it sure has been wonderful! πŸ™‚ I’ve been talking with my eldest son about getting my youtube channel active again. I would like to make time lapse videos of my paintings in progress, with my band’s and husband’s music in the background.

Problem is, I have no knowledge of video software and very little youtube knowledge. Luckily for me, my son is an animator and his youtube channel is going great! In the coming weeks he has promised to help me get this task figured out. I know what I want to do, I’ve seen other videos, but I don’t have the software to do it or the ability to operate said software!

If anyone out there has any suggestions for a good, inexpensive program specifically for the iMac, that also has the time lapse capability, please let me know in the comments! πŸ™‚

Until I get my head around the skills I need, still progress photos will have to do! The first photo is the painting I was working on in my last post, and is now complete.

Painting in progress, Artsy Quote, and Tshirts

It’s been another one of those busy months. Enjoying summer and the outdoors as much as possible while also getting my work done. Unfortunately, the blog posts have been one of the casualties of summer!

Time to get back on track! The air is getting cooler, we’ve been getting LOTS of rain this summer! Living in the desert, that doesn’t always happen. In fact, we’ve been in a drought for about a decade. This year, the mountains, where we hike, have been open most of the summer. Except for the week surrounding the 4th of July, of course! Needless to say, we have spent a lot of mornings this month hiking!

A couple of weeks ago, I finally got back into my painting studio. I have a gallery show coming up in December, so I’ve also been busy getting work ready for that. The painting above is the current work in progress, still has a ways to go before it’s done.

My band, Sunlight, has also been busy lately! After taking July off, we have 4 shows in August, with two coming up this weekend in Colorado. We play on Friday night at Mean Jean’s coffee house in Lake City, CO and Saturday night at The Swing Station in Laporte, CO. One of the things we accomplished this month was getting silk screens made for our Sunlight T-shirts. Tomorrow we will spend the afternoon printing them. I will let you all know as soon as they are available! πŸ™‚

Last but not least, it’s been a while since I’ve posted an Artsy Quote, so here you go!
