People who inspire me: Alison Reynolds

This past Saturday we went into Silver City to catch some live music. A friend of ours from Las Cruces, Alison Reynolds, was playing at the Little Toad Brewery in downtown. I’ve always loved her music, but this time we finally picked up her CDs too. She does a great live act with a loop pedal to bring in all the different parts of her songs. She plays the cello and the guitar. Yesterday, I finally got the chance to listen to her latest CD, In Times Like These, and I was blown away.

More progress on "I Don't Speak Your Name", still a work in progress

Every song on the album is really good, but the first song stuck in my head all day long. 3 Monkeys is about not hearing, seeing or speaking the name of a certain someone who “runs” our country. It’s a song about letting love rule. I refuse to say his name as well and the song seriously reverberated with my heart and soul. The cello is mesmerizing! The lyrics are meaningful and the tune just sticks in the head.

I’ve been working/playing on moving more towards an abstract style with my art. My life has changed so profoundly since we moved to the mountains, it’s been a dream forever! Somehow, it feels like my art is ready for a change as well. I’d been having problems finding inspiration for my latest work and have been “playing” just to get the creative juices flowing.

Sometimes inspiration hits while I’m painting, but other times, a song, a movie, a book, or a news story will trigger my muse. This time it was Alison’s song. I asked her if I could use her song for my latest time-lapse painting and I’m so happy she said yes!

This abstract is pure expressionism. While I’m painting, I have Alison’s song on repeat and the brush strokes are moving with the rhythm of the music. I really have no idea what I’m doing, this is new to me, but I sure am enjoying it! It feels great to go with the flow! I hope you will enjoy it too!

Four Seasons Mandala

Finished up the background on my most recent painting. “Four Seasons” is getting close! I already have one collector interested in this one, and it’s not even finished yet! I love it when that happens! πŸ™‚

I’m really enjoying the process on this one. At first, I was trying to line up all the lines at the corners of every section. Then I realized how difficult that would be, so I just let it flow. Always a better option!

The blue section represents winter, above that is the Summer section, to the right is the Spring section and the left is Autumn. I used color temperatures and symbols to represent the different seasons.

As we transition from Autumn to Winter, color helps me stay upbeat and happy. I’ll admit, I don’t like the winter, but I’ve been working on finding things I like about the cold weather. May as well make the best of things, right?

Things I like about Winter; Hot coffee, tea or cocoa, homemade hot soups, wearing my knee high boots, sweaters, cuddling under blankets with my sweetie while watching netflix, seeing snow on the mountain while being in the sun in the valley, covering up my middle aged, flabby body with winter clothes, aaaaaand that’s what I’ve got for now. Still working on my list! My favorite thing about Winter? Traveling to warm places for vacation from the cold! lol!

My 2018 calendars are almost ready! They will be available for purchase VERY soon! Stay tuned!

Friday? Already?!

This week flew right by! I haven’t spent much time painting this week. It’s been a week of packing and shipping, working on my website, etc, all the behind the scenes unexciting tasks of an artist. Below are a couple of my Instagram updates from this week. (Click on the bottom one to see the video) The Self Portrait for the Veterans show is coming along, slowly but surely. I psyched myself out for days with the portrait, scared to just jump in and get it started! Last night I finally took the dive. Long way to go, but it’s getting a decent start. Follow me on Instagram @manlewis69 to get my daily photo/video updates! πŸ™‚

Today is the last day for my Summer Sale on my art website. 50% off select paintings and prints. Sign up for my email list and get a 20% off coupon for your next purchase of any regularly priced paintings or prints. πŸ™‚

Creativity: BE the Light

Finished up the painting I’ve been working on yesterday, but didn’t have the camera with me at my studio, so I’m posting it today! My inspiration seems to be leaning towards the light these days. It’s manifesting as paintings of a symbolized sun. Besides love, light is something desperately needed in this world today.

When I say light, I don’t necessarily mean it literally, as in sunlight. The kind of light I’m talking about it the radiant light of joy and love, the light that shines forth when we give of ourselves to others. The light of the Spirit guiding us towards our authentic selves. The light that casts out shadows and makes evil hide in a deep, dark hole. Other Lightworkers know what I’m talking about. It’s the light that draws people into your world because they are in desperate need of positive energy. Perhaps they are like minded and want to share and heighten their positive energy.

I am still working on staying in this place of light. This is most likely why I’m being inspired to paint these pieces at the moment. I NEED the reminder on a daily basis. I don’t like to write these posts about positive energy and love without clarifying that I am on this journey too. I am far from perfect. I am grateful for my spiritual guidance! I’m grateful that I have this medium for bringing more light into the world. I’m thankful for the gift I have been given to share with you all. As long as it keeps inspiring me, I will continue to share it! May you all see and feel this light and be guided to your own higher purpose. Be the gift to the world that you are meant to be. We are here to give of ourselves in our most authentic and loving way.
