Seven to go!

Finished yesterday, 12x12" oil on canvas, still untitled.

Finished yesterday, 12×12″ oil on canvas, still untitled.

I’ve been busy, busy, busy in the studio this week already! I’ve finished a couple more 12×12″ paintings and I’m currently working on another. That leaves 7 more to finish up from this Summer.

In the past, I’ve released paintings as soon as I finish them. This year that changes. From now on I will release my new work when I have a group of paintings done. They will be released as a collection. The next release will be my Fall 2018 Collection. I’m working towards an October release date, but I have to finish up the last 7 first! I’m not sure how many collection releases I will do in a year, I’m thinking a collection for every season, but it will depend on what I get painted!

When I do release the new works, they will be released to my email list first. This gives my collectors and people who follow me the first chance to buy my new work. Then I will release them to the general public on my website. Go to my website and subscribe to be one of the first to get a chance to buy my new paintings!

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted a “Hiking the Gila” blog. We have been pretty busy, and though we have gone on a couple of hikes, I have either forgotten the camera, or we’ve hiked a trail I already blogged about. This Thursday I’m planning on another hiking blog. Stay tuned!

I’ve been working on a couple of 20 x 20″ oil paintings the past couple of weeks. I didn’t get much done on the paintings last week as I was busy moving into my new studio. I’m working on a couple of ideas that came from several of the smaller paintings I was working on over the Summer. I may end up with a series from these ideas. I love it when an idea plays out over several paintings like that! It gives me a starting point for my next painting.

I still need to order a few large canvases so I can try the ideas out on a larger scale. It’s been so long since I’ve had the space to work larger than 30×30″. I’m thinking I will start with a couple of 4 foot square canvases. Other than murals, I haven’t painted that big since I had a van! It’s very important when painting large that you have a vehicle with the capacity to carry your art. Lol. I’m currently storing a couple of my larger paintings at my mom’s house in Albuquerque, because I couldn’t fit them into my station wagon.

The plan is to get a truck by the end of the month. Living out in the country, we definitely need to have two vehicles for so many reasons. There’s the fact that we have to haul our own trash. Aaron and I are no longer working together everyday, so we need separate cars for commuting. There was that week we had to rent a car while our Subaru was having a new clutch put in. Of course, most importantly, I need to be able to transport large canvases! 😉

Work in Progress…

It’s been really nice having time in the studio the past couple of weeks. Makes me feel a bit guilty since my hubby is stuck at home digging up the sewer pipes in the back yard! We had our house all ready to sell, it’s actually on the market now, and now we have a MAJOR plumbing disaster happening in our back yard! Turns out the sewer lines that we thought were “slow”(just old and clogged) are actually filled with holes and collapsed in some places. My husband and son have been digging for days and today was the day they hoped to uncover the connection to the main sewer line.

Trench in my back yard

Trench in my back yard! It now keeps going around the corner of the house at the end.

Unfortunately, that was not to be. It turns out, our sewer line from our kitchen and back bathroom/laundry room actually lead into a 5o gallon barrel, old rusty barrel. You see, our house was built way back when in 1950, and I guess the original house was on a septic tank (if that’s what they called a septic tank back then!) UPDATE: My hubby just called to let me know that the barrel was NOT a septic tank after all, it was actually buried ABOVE the pipes! UGH! Good news is the pipe keeps going, so no septic to remove, but there is still that barrel…

While my poor sweetie has been digging in the back yard, I’ve been busy creating new paintings and getting ready for my Open Studio event coming up at Chroma Studios! I am having an art sale on that day to help contribute to our plumbing fund! If you aren’t local, stay tuned as I will post paintings here for sale as well! 🙂

Long time!

It’s been too long since my last post. Lots going on in my private life right now. Half of August we were gone on vacation. We visited the Pacific NW for the first time ever and we really liked it! It was a great trip and we visited some friends and some family. Met a few of my facebook friends that I had never met in person before, plus a college friend I hadn’t seen since 1999!

I’m back to work in my studio, mainly been working on getting my coloring books out in the world. Yesterday, I started on a new coloring page design. I’m having so much fun with these mandala drawings!

A couple of weeks ago, I was feeling down and in a dark place. For whatever reason, I decided that I should add some black paint to a few older paintings, just to see what they would look like. I really am happy with the outcome. I didn’t actually use black paint out of the tube, but mixed my own black with Ultramarine blue and Olive green. It’s on old artist trick to make the black more luminous.

The painting above is being auctioned in my facebook fan group, starting bid $40! If you are interested, you must be a member of the group to bid! To join the group, go to THIS PAGE and click the join button. 🙂

I guess the main reason I haven’t posted here in so long is that I’m feeling like I’m at a turning point with my art and I’m not sure where it’s going next. I’m working on simplifying things, but with all the art I have piled up in my studio, that’s not an easy task. Stay tuned, I promise to keep you in the loop! 🙂

I can see the light….

..at the end of the proverbial tunnel! I have one blank canvas left to fill. Just in time! My deadline is November 20, so I technically have over two weeks left. There is still work to do once the painting is done, I have to finish and put hangers on. I am finishing them with my usual metal tape, not sure yet if they will be embossed or left plain. Time will tell. Here are a few images of the most recent paintings;

Paintings in progress for December

“Love Eternal”, 30 x 30″ oil on canvas, work in progress

I have been super busy in the studio the last couple of weeks! Ramping up my painting time to get ready for a show in December at the Fuller Art Lodge in Los Alamos, New Mexico. I am aiming for 18 paintings for the show and so far I have 5 done and 5 more in progress.

Two months left to finish up the paintings I’m currently working on, plus 8 more! I really do work best under pressure, always have! I scheduled this show way back when in August of 2013, and this August I was reminded of it and thought, I guess it’s time to get to work!

Sunlight, the folk trio I play in with my husband, has taken quite a bit of my time lately. I haven’t spent as much time in the art studio as I usually do. It sure does feel great to get back to my paintings!

For a short time I had considered giving up painting completely to spend more time on the music, but I know there is no way that will ever happen. I love painting way too much. It has been refreshing to take the break though. Now, I feel inspired again! I’m excited about these new paintings, hope you like them! 🙂

Best Laid Plans…

Every time I get back into the swing of a routine, my life comes along and sweeps me up into it’s flow. I am grateful for my life which is far from boring! It seems like I JUST posted that last blog and now here it is over a month later.

love touches the heart finished oil painting

“Love touches the heart”, 18 x 18″ oil on canvas, SOLD

Lots of things going on in my life these days. As I mentioned in my last post, I just returned from a short tour with my group, Sunlight. We played three shows in Arizona and a couple in Las Cruces and Wednesday of this week we are playing again here in Albuquerque. Music has always been a huge part of my life, but now, being a performer, it has taken on a whole new meaning. I am coming up on my 2 year anniversary as a singer. Who knew it could be this much fun!?

Still working on my “Words” series, in fact, since my last post, I finished the painting I was working on (and sold it!) and started two more. One is an addition to the Words series, and the other is a new guitar painting.

“Love knows no gender”, acrylic on wood guitar, work in progress

The guitar painting is inspired by the recent popular issue of marriage equality. I don’t like to be political here on my blog, but I have to admit that I support gay marriage! The ONE necessary ingredient for a successful marriage? LOVE! Hence the name for my latest guitar painting, “Love knows no gender”. 🙂
