My current work in progress. 12 x 12″ oil on canvas. A suggestion from a facebook follower pointed me in a different direction.
I spent most of March and a couple days in April working on my brand new website! I have been researching and learning about artist websites for YEARS! This is the year I finally found the perfect website solution for my art. Art Store Fronts is amazing! They have all the tools I need to run an efficient website. Everything I’ve been learning about and had no idea how to actually implement, is built in to their awesome software. I highly recommend them. Needless to say, I NOW have a brand new artist website with everything! I invite you to go check it out and please let me know what you think! PaulaManningLewis.com is now LIVE! I have closed my Etsy shop and now have everything available for sale on the new site. Actually, I’m still working on getting EVERYTHING available. My current portfolio is all there, coloring books, dolls and older work is coming soon.
Now that the majority of website work is done, it’s back to painting in preparation for a show at the New Mexico Cancer Center Gallery starting in June and showing through August. I will have at least 20 pieces in the show! I also have a show coming up in August at the local Sierra Club offices. I have a LOT of painting to get done in the coming months! The painting above is my current work in progress, in a totally different direction. Instead of the sun or a flower, this one is focused on the Moon.
In addition to my paintings on canvas, I’m getting ready to start two different mural projects. I will share more about that in my Spring e-newsletter. Please visit my new website and sign up for my email list to receive the newsletter when it goes out soon.
This Saturday is ChromaFEST, an art and music festival and fundraiser for our local business, Chroma Studios. My band, Sunlight will be performing at 5:55pm-6:35pm. Also, my husband, Aaron Lewis, will play a solo guitar set as well right before Sunlight, starting at 5:30pm. Hope to see my local friends there! 🙂
I’m still thinking about whether or not I will keep my blog here on WordPress or transfer it over to my new website. I may just link the two together. I’m super excited about taking my art to the next level! I feel like I finally found my groove again!

It took a little while! I worked on putting this video together for the past few weeks. There were over 600 single frames put together to create it! I plan on doing more in the future, hope you enjoy!

Spiral Mandala Coloring Book II, 20 page, 8 1/2 x 11″ booklet, available for $18
It’s done! After about a month of working on this coloring book, I picked up my final proof at the printer this afternoon! I’m so excited! This is a MUCH nicer coloring book than my first one. There are twice as many coloring pages(20), the pages are not double sided, so markers won’t bleed into the backside and ruin your other pages. I left one side blank on every page so there is room for you to draw your own designs too! It’s now available in my Etsy shop!
One of the inside pages
For a limited time, until the end of July, when you buy the new coloring book, you will also get a FREE PDF version of my first coloring book!
This is one of the pages I colored. Fun! 🙂
The drawing part was easy! It’s all the Photoshop work to get clean lines and a white background that take the most time. It doesn’t help that I’m a ridiculous perfectionist! I finally had to let some things go if I ever planned to get it finished. I hope you will enjoy it! I’ve already colored a couple of pages and they are fun designs, if I do say so myself. 😉

The last 5 coloring book designs, pencil sketches before they are inked in.
I have spent the past few weeks working on my new coloring book and today I finished all the drawings! My shoulder is hurting from hunching over my drawing table for too long! I should know better, but sometimes, inspiration just pushes me to keep going. I’m so excited about this coloring book! My first book had 10 designs. This book has 20.
Working on this coloring book had me thinking a lot about childhood and how much I used to love coloring. Even into my 20s, when my kids were young, I colored in coloring books often. Adult coloring has apparently become a trend lately. I always preferred drawing to coloring, so drawing my own coloring designs just made so much sense. I WILL color them too, once done! 😉
Design #19 before photoshop clean up. Almost there!
Thinking of my younger years got me to thinking about my mom. This weekend is her 70th birthday! I had to mention her here because she is the one personally responsible for my love of drawing and art in general. I don’t remember being younger than about 5 years old, but she tells the story of giving me a stack of paper and pencil when I was under 2 years old and how I would spend HOURS sitting and drawing.
Me and my mama
In honor of my mom’s birthday week, I had to tell her here, THANKS MOM! Thank you for ALWAYS encouraging me to follow my dreams of being an artist. She has attended just about EVERY art opening and open studio I have ever had. (minus the times she was out of town!) I love you and I’m so glad you are my mama! Happy birthday, with MANY MORE to come!

These are designs number 8,9 & 10. I’m halfway done with the second coloring book!
Creating these designs is a multi-step process. I start with a piece of drawing paper divided up by pencil diagonally, to form an X.
Then I use a compass to draw concentric circles at various distances from the center. This framework sketch helps guide my design by keeping the drawing symmetrical.
Once the design is penciled in, I go over it with a fine tip sharpie marker. When the drawing is fully inked, I erase all the pencil lines, photograph and then open the image in Photoshop where I clean up the image a bit more and save it for future printing. The images in this post are at the stage of just being photographed, but not yet cleaned up Photoshop.

This idea has taken on a life of it’s own. What began as a spin off on the “Free Hugs” idea has become something more. I recently created a coloring book with some of my designs and while I worked on the project I thought, “what could I do with this idea in regards to my Love, pass it on project?” It came in a flash, the idea that I could make a “Love, Pass it on” coloring book. I had already thought about making stickers to hand out for free so, why not a coloring book to go with the stickers? Now, coloring books are not for everyone, granted. Kids LOVE coloring books though, so why not give these out to kids?! My plan is to have as many of these coloring books and stickers printed as I can afford and then take them out to hospitals, grief counselors, homeless shelters, etc. and give them to kids. The goal is to let these kids know there are people who love and care for them. Love heals ALL.
So, that is the current idea/goal for “Love, Pass it on”. I have also added another dimension to the project. I am working with a few poets who will write short verse, haikus, quotes, etc. having to do with the Love, pass it on concept. These poems/verses will be included in the coloring book as well. If you happen to be a poet, interested in collaborating on this project, please contact me!
I submitted my idea to one of the most popular crowd funding websites out there and was quickly rejected. I will NOT let this stop me! If I have to pay for the whole thing myself, then I WILL. If you would like to help with funding, know a printer who would donate the printing, anything at all to help me out, please contact me. 🙂 As always, I am very grateful to be blessed with the ability to do what I love for a living! I just want to give something back. 🙂
Coloring book design #1, markers and crayons!
I’m really excited about the project I’m currently working on! Browsing around Etsy the other day, I came across a coloring book. Coloring book……what an awesome idea for my art! I am planning on 20 pages for the first book. I say first, because I already have ideas for at least 3 collections of coloring book art. It is making me feel like a kid again! I am truly enjoying playing with the markers and the crayons…..and yes, of course I’m coloring all the designs as I go! I hope to have the first book done in mid January and it will be available in BOTH printed AND .pdf formats. That way, you can color with crayons or with Paint on the computer! 🙂 Personally, I prefer the hands on feeling of crayons and markers, but I’m just old fashioned like that! 🙂
UPDATE 1/3/12: My first coloring book is now available in my Etsy shop in both printed and PDF formats! Check it out HERE!
