Abstract

I have always loved abstract art. I’ve attempted to paint in an abstract style for years, but never felt I did it right until these five paintings. When I started the 20 plus canvases this Summer, my goal was to paint them all completely abstract with no recognizable objects. No suns or flowers, just pure abstraction. I ended up going in several different directions. These five stayed true to my original intention. Several wandered back to my spiral abstract series style with the mandala effect. Six became my new Energy series that I wrote about in my last blog post. Plus a handful of heart/love related paintings.

I have one that is still a work in progress. Somehow it slipped by when I was finishing up the Fall Portfolio. Not sure how it will be completed, I suspect it’s very close to finished in it’s current state.

“Landscape with rain” was painted in my home studio, looking out over the Mimbres Valley. The clouds were settled in to the valley and it rained daily. Though I meant this to be a pure abstract, looking at it now, I can see the hills and clouds and rain. It feels like Summer rain to me.

“Balanced” was done after I moved in to my new studio in Santa Clara. I called it balanced because I felt it was the closest to my original goal for this group of paintings. A Pure Abstract painting. It started as a scribble and the colors were filled in with pure intuition. It was one of those paintings that felt perfect and great as I was making it. It flowed from a place of pure inspiration. “All I Speak is Love”, 12 x 12″ oil on canvas, Pure Abstract Series, Available for $225

“All I Speak is Love” was inspired by a song written and performed by a musician friend. Alison Reynolds is an incredible song writer and musician in Las Cruces, New Mexico. This painting was specifically inspired by her song, 3 Monkeys. Give it a listen!

“Eye of the Storm”, 12 x 12″ oil on canvas, Pure Abstract Series, Available for $225.

“Eye of the Storm” was started in August at my home studio. In the midst of above average rainfall, storms were on the mind when this painting was started. We had some intense thunderstorms with spectacular lightning shows. Someone on social media pointed out the eye in the middle and it stuck. Not easy to paint a pure abstract without someone seeing something represented! 😉

I definitely see more pure abstracts coming in the future. I love concentrating more on the colors and composition of the brush strokes. Not thinking about whether it “looks like” anything. Back to Canvas

It’s been quite a while since I’ve painted on canvas! I’ve painted several murals and a bunch of vinyl records over the past few months. I guess it’s about time.

"Four Seasons", 20 x 20" oil on canvas, work in progress

“Four Seasons”, 20 x 20″ oil on canvas, work in progress

This new painting in progress is a special project for the latest Sunlight CD cover art. Aaron (my hubby and music partner), had the inspiration for it. Every once in a while he has a great idea! 😉 😉 The title of the album is “Shuffle” and the painting is based on the four seasons. I guess it’s a play on our Sunlight tag line, “Sunlight shines on it all”, and the fact that the sun shines through all four seasons.

This is a new concept for me as I’ve never really painted a mandala in sections like this. I’m having a difficult time keeping it round. Usually, my freehand form of painting is easy to keep round, but with the different sections, not so much. Good news is, this is just the background of the painting. Not exactly sure where it’s going. The muse guides me and tells me what’s next. I just follow the silent cues. The finished painting hasn’t quite revealed itself to me, just yet. Follow me on Instagram if you want to continue seeing the progress.

Speaking of Sunlight, we have just released our first single (Pale Moonlight), from the new CD, which should be released in full at the beginning of 2018. We are really excited about this album as we played with a drummer and bass player. The first CD was mainly acoustic, with guitar and ukelele. We had one song we added drums to, and after that one song, we decided to record the entire 2nd CD with a full band. Plus, I played uke on this one! Have a listen and let me know what you think? Thanks!

Creativity: “Inner Love”

Today I finished the painting I started on Friday. As you can see from past paintings, purple, red and yellow is one of my favorite color combos. It feels regal to me. The contrast of the complementary colors, purple and yellow, with the red tossed into the mix, is like visual joy to me.

This is another “in spirit” or inspired painting, as it came to me in my Friday morning meditation. These are usually my best and most significant paintings. They are coming directly from my spiritual source. “I Am That, I Am”. Some people call it God. Whatever name you call it, it is the spiritual source from which we all come.

This painting is another piece in my “All About Love” series. I paint a lot about love because I truly believe it’s the one thing we need more of in this world. All you need is love!

Craaaazy!

What a crazy time it’s been this past month and a half! The mural is long done, the dedication ceremony was last Wednesday. I have a few photos to share, which I am just now finally getting around to! The week after I finished the mural it was time to jump into our 1st annual “ChromaFEST” weekend, which happened the first weekend in May.

The same weekend, my youngest son found his first apartment and moved out. YAY! It took us a week to recover our house and rearrange furniture in the extra space he left us. Of course, he left a mess for us to clean up, but we were so excited about our nest finally being empty, that we didn’t mind cleaning up after him this one last time.

The preschool kids sang “Jesus Loves Me” for the mural dedication ceremony. It was so CUTE!

Now that the house is CLEAN and actually has stayed clean, it’s time for me to get busy in my studio again. I am itching to get back to my easel, it’s been WAY too long since I’ve painted.

Now that I’m back to my regular schedule, I am getting back to my weekly auctions. After thinking about it for a while, I’ve decided to raise my starting bid to $20. Still a really great deal for an original painting! I have sold off most of my older paintings now, so from now on, the weekly auction will be a newer piece.
