Open Studio Time!

My blog post was bumped yesterday for a Valentine’s Day trip to the Peak of the Sandia mountains. It was cold, cloudy and snowy up there, but it was beautiful! If you’ve never been to Albuquerque, the Sandias are the mountains directly to the east of the city. It takes about 30 minutes to drive up to the peak. One of the biggest reasons we love Albuquerque! Usually, you can see the city from the peak, but yesterday everything was covered with clouds.

My Valentine! ❀

This week I’m getting ready for my monthly open studio event. Every month, I open my studio to the public, along with some of the other artists here at Chroma Studios. It’s a great time to get a behind the scenes look at the where I work and what I do everyday. You might even get a great deal on one of my paintings! I have prints available too.

Looking into my studio from the Reception area

The address is 1606 Central Ave SE, ste. 201, Albuquerque, NM. We occupy the whole upstairs of the building. It’s a really cool space with the high windows in the front. I have recently moved back into studio #1, the room I started in 9 years ago when we first opened Chroma Studios. It truly is the prime studio space. I sometimes feel guilty about taking it back, but I think after 8 years, it’s my turn again! πŸ˜‰

The high windows are on either side of my studio, with one looking out onto Central Ave. and the other one looking into the reception area.

More Rag dolls

fourgirls

The “girls”, though we are NOT gender biased here, they can also be long haired boys or transgender dolls.

My Etsy shop is now stocked with my new “Love” ragdolls. These cute little dolls have been so much fun to make, I must admit I hug them regularly! I have to! I named them “Love” dolls for a reason. They are given tons of love before they are sent out to their new mommies and daddies, where they will give love for years and years to come.

fourboys

The “boys” and bald babies, like the “girls” there is no gender bias here, they can be whatever YOU want them to be.

They are made with multicolored fabrics and yarns to represent all the ethnicities of the world. Their bright colors are meant to make them happy, loving dolls. They all have a cute little smile on their faces and an embroidered heart on their chest.

I realized yesterday that I made my “love” dolls just in time for Valentine’s Day. What girl or lady wouldn’t want a cute, hugable Love doll from their Valentine? I would! πŸ˜‰

I am also offering a custom, “memorial” doll. What exactly is a memorial doll you ask? A memorial doll is made in memory of a deceased loved one, using a piece of clothing that belonged to the loved one. It is an upcycled doll that will keep giving love long after a loved one is gone. The doll can be made with the same hair color and eye color as your loved one and will also have the person’s name embroidered within the heart on the chest. These are special order dolls, so contact me directly if you are interested and we can work out the logistics, ie sending me the item of clothing and determining custom elements for the doll.

I am also happy to make regular custom dolls with specific colors. These dolls are selling quick! Get yours while you can! Thank you! πŸ™‚

Back to Normal (Sort of!)

Finally, things are getting back to normal around here. We still don’t have a furnace, but we did install a wood burning stove over the weekend to supplement the fireplace in the main part of the house. Also, the weather is cooperating so it has been much warmer lately! It’s supposed to be close to 60 degrees today.

So, I finally have a new progress photo to post! This is the 36 inch square canvas I am currently working on. I have set it aside for now to decide whether or not I will be adding more. Not sure yet. It’s hard to see all the details in a photo this small, especially when the original is so large. What do you think? Is it done? This painting is going to be the center piece for my show in Gallup in March.

I have been busy painting little paper mache heart boxes for Valentines day. I will have them in my etsy shop by the end of the day. Also today, I will be posting many of my older originals at special prices. I need sales to make the money for the new furnace (the estimates start coming in today). So now is a great time to get some of my originals for great prices!

Also, the Beck prints are still buy one, get one free until February 15th. See the clearance section in my Etsy shop.
