I have recently moved my studio away from my house, AND my computer! This wonderful marvel of technology that has made my life possible has also sucked the life out of me at times! I am hopelessly addicted to the internet. There, I admitted it, which as they say, is the first step. Today we celebrate the changing of the seasons, an end of winter and the arrival of Spring! YAY! I have a project I am currently working on to make small hand bound books using my mini prints and different quotes. Here is the first one, I will do an online version as well. Enjoy and share freely! 🙂

The background is all complete now! Our day was shortened again today by wind and clouds and possible rain. We did get quite a lot of progress today however. Tomorrow, weather permitting, we will work on the details, painting in the lambs, grass, flowers, tree, plus we are now adding Jesus to watch over the flock. He will sit on a back hill looking towards the lambs. The preschool director came to me yesterday afternoon and asked if it was possible to add him in, so of course, we are happy to oblige. 🙂 Here are today’s progress photos.
Today while I finished up the sign, Bryan worked on the back hills
Sign is now 100% complete!
Finishing up the sky
- More progress on the hills and sky is done!
After Bryan filled in the big areas on the hills and I finished the sky, I went back in to fill in the edges (while fighting the wind in my hair!)
Done for the day, tomorrow it's on to the detail work!
And the main wall...
Lamb close up, tomorrow I will paint in the sketched lambs

The past couple of days have been so amazing! Temps in the high 60s, sunshine! Finally coming out of that “last days of winter” funk! Being reminded of why I love living in central New Mexico. We have 4 seasons that pretty much stick to the days on the calendar. Winters are usually pretty mild and short with plenty of sunny, warm days thrown in. So, needless to say, I have spent the last couple of days outside as much as possible! Walking the dogs, hanging out in the back with the chickens, riding the bus/walking around town running errands. So, though it’s been fun, it’s time to get back in the studio and get some work done.
I found out on Monday that my bid was accepted for a mural project. The mural is for a church preschool and will be my first mural ever! I’m so excited, cannot wait to get started on it! Below is a rough sketch of the idea. The preschool is called “Lambs of Grace” and hence the lambs in the meadow. Work will begin on the mural as soon as it’s warm enough to paint outside, so hopefully very soon!
Preliminary sketches for Lambs of Grace mural
Today began another weekly art auction, as always starting bid is $9.99. In celebration of Spring, this week’s painting is one that I painted during a cold front at the beginning of December, “Cold Blows In”.

I’ve been bad about blogging lately. Weeks are flying by, faster and faster, wasn’t it just Monday yesterday?
Settling in to the new studio space. All the studios are rented now, for sure. We are having our first artist’s meeting this Friday. One of the things I’ve been trying to decide lately is whether I should start yet another blog to keep the Chroma Studios news separate from my art news. Problem is that I hardly have enough time to keep up with the blogs and websites I have now, do I really need to add another one to keep track of? One of the features I am planning for the studios blog is individual interviews with each artist in the space. I’m thinking weekly, but maybe I’ll do them all in 10 days. There are 10 studios here, but a couple of them have more than one person. We actually have 12 people total. Of course I don’t need to interview myself.
Spring is finally here in northern NM! It has been so nice going on our daily walks to the river again. We always say we’re going to walk thru the winter, but it never happens that way! I am a wimp when it comes to the cold. You would think that 4 years in Northern Colorado would have fixed that, but it actually made me worse!
I can tell it’s been awhile since I’ve blogged because I’m all over the place and don’t know what to write next! Oh well. I guess that’s all for now, just wanted to put up a new blog so you wouldn’t think I’d dropped off the earth! 🙂
So much going on right now, I barely have time to breathe! Figured I’d write a quick post to let you all know what’s up. Several deals in the works, can’t really say much until I know more, but stay tuned and I will keep you posted.
I’m working on my largest canvas to date, a 48 x 48″ oil painting, a new spiral abstract flower.
I have a couple of Canyon Road galleries in Santa Fe interested in seeing more of my larger work which is why I’m busy painting more!
Preparing to move in to my new studio (again, I know, I’ve only been in this studio for 1 1/2 months!) at the beginning of March. Much nicer place(heat and air conditioning!) with a gallery too!
Spring is coming! I love this time of year! I’ll post more news soon, I promise!
Spring is here and the sun is shining! Flowers are beginning to bloom and April showers are here and there. I have lots of pictures to share today! I have been super busy painting everything from canvas to furniture and guitars. Plus there are the first Iris blooms in my front yard!
I have been enjoying the season so much that I haven’t been online much lately. I’m so inspired by the flowers and sun that I have spent a majority of my time in the studio and sun room painting like a mad crazy woman. I love being inspired like that, time stands still, I’m in my own little world!
I am VERY CLOSE to finishing my first painted guitar. I also plan to string it up and put some beads on the strings. I figured since it’s been a while I would post a brand new progress photo or two. I also finished a canvas that has been half done for months and a new daily painting. Even though there is only one daily to post, I have been painting everyday on all my other projects.
I am starting to map out my show schedule for the year and just sent my application in for my booth at the NM State Fair. I’m considering doing a show called GO! that is in downtown Albuquerque at the end of September. I did that show the first year they held it, back in 2003 I believe. The only problem with that show is it is the first weekend after the Fair. Which basically means I will be sitting a booth with my art for the entire month of September. I guess I can’t complain, it should be a lot of fun!
Also, May 12th and 19th I will be at the brand new Albuquerque Neighborhood Market which will also be downtown.
Oh and I can’t forget the Open Studio/House Concert we are planning for Saturday, May 26th! This is going to be a whole ton of fun! For the afternoon, my studio will be open for visitors and then later in the evening, my husband Aaron Lewis, will put on a house concert to introduce some of his newest compositions! If you are in the area please do stop by!
