Weekly Art Auction

Getting back to my weekly art auctions. This week’s auction is a daily journal painting from 2007. During this period, I custom built several wood frames for my daily journal paintings. I wanted a frame that I could paint on so the painting could be continued into the frame. This was the result of that experiment. If memory serves me, I did 8 of these paintings. This is the only one left! Click on the image to go to the auction page. Thanks for looking and happy bidding! 🙂

Green Moon 8″ square oils on canvas board

I’ve been painting a lot of smaller pieces on recycled matboard scraps. Each piece is gessoed by me before I start. The mat scraps are plentiful in my framing studio. When I am out of ideas for larger paintings I like to paint small ACEOs or 6 – 8″ squares. It helps to get my creative juices flowing and I usually come up with my next large painting concept while I’m at it. That is exactly what happened today! I painted Purple Night aceo and then came the Green Moon on 8″ canvas board. Now I’m working on a similar idea on a 20″ square stretched canvas. It was a very productive day in the studio. I’ve also jotted down some ideas for my next needlepoint designs.

Above and below are photos of all the aceo paintings, daily journal paintings and handpainted furniture I’ve finished in the past week. All are available in my Etsy shop.

Today is the first day I’ve painted since our furnace died. So, I dove right in and painted two daily size paintings. These are both 8 x 8 inches, H2O Oils on recycled, handmade canvas board. I made the boards using scrap matboard, raw canvas and gesso. I also made custom backing paper for them! I started out with 12 boards for now. That gives me a couple weeks without having to make more, unless I paint two a day! I also have a 10 inch square canvas prepared and ready to paint! Time is getting short for my show in March, so I’m trying to finish as many as possible.

Today I’m going to a meeting at my community center about a proposed mural on a wall that overlooks the neighborhood park and the city of Albuquerque. The neighborhood association asked me to be on the committee and help with the process. I’m excited but at the same time a little unsure as there will be a lot of city politics involved I’m sure. I would like to involve the high school art students and any other neighborhood kids that are interested. I think it will happen as this is supposed to be a community project because of the funding being used. We shall see!
