Overcoming my Addiction to Facebook

This will be my final post on this subject. I feel like I’ve overcome the addiction! Yay! I still go to facebook, but I don’t get sucked in like I did before. I don’t spend hour upon hour staring at my news feed. I haven’t had a heated discussion in weeks.

I’ve made it to the second section of my online web development course. I can now build a very simple website in html with simple CSS. This is pretty exciting as I’ve now gone past the point of knowledge I had in college (2000). Mainly because everything from this point on is new information! I’m not quite to the point where I can build the website I want, but I’m getting there.

I’m back to painting again! It had been almost a year since I had pulled my paints and brushes out. It feels good to be creative and feel the movement of paint across the canvas. I’m still a bit rusty, as happens after not painting for that long a period of time, but it’s coming back quickly.

Jemez Mountains

Jemez Mountains

Yesterday, Aaron and I made a trip up north to Los Alamos to deliver more pillows and dolls to the Fuller Lodge Art Gallery. They have already sold a couple of pieces! YAY! It was a lovely drive home! We took the back road through the Jemez mountains, nothing quite like a drive through the forest to make me feel grounded. Unfortunately, we wore the wrong shoes so we couldn’t get out for a hike. Next time, for sure!

Winding down the year

photo of me and Aaron

It’s nearly impossible to get a serious photo taken with my husband!

I promise to be better about posting next year! (lol, sure, Paula, sure!) Seriously though, my show opened at the Fuller Lodge Art Center on Saturday, December 6th. I should have been here last week, posting about the opening and how much fun we had…., but I spent last week with the “after show funk”. For those of you who don’t know this phenomena, this is what happens after an artist has worked for months to put a show together, had fun at the opening and then wakes up on Monday morning with the thought, “now what?”

Silly guy!

Silly guy!

The opening went well and though I didn’t have any sales the night of, I’m confident that sales will occur in the weeks between the opening and closing of the show. πŸ™‚ Tomorrow morning I will be interviewed by the local Los Alamos radio station on their weekly arts show. πŸ™‚

At least now you can see him! ;)

I brought my husband and our band mate, Ray, to the opening and we had fun performing a few of our songs. We, I mean “I”, sang Christmas carols with the daughter of the Director of the gallery. (The guys DON’T sing Christmas songs!) So much fun helping to inspire a young aspiring singer! πŸ™‚ She was so awesome, even if she was very nervous about singing in front of people.

Finally! A decent photo, ok, well, maybe not. ;-)

We stopped in Santa Fe on the way home to have dinner and ended up waiting longer than it would have taken us to just drive home and make dinner. I guess that’s what we get for eating out in Santa Fe on a Saturday night without reservations. Lesson learned! The food was delicious though and it was nice to not have to cook for a change.

Almost finished with this one! 10 x 10″ oil on canvas

I’ve been back in the studio again since Thursday, it took a few days to shake off the funk! So, here’s a couple WIP photos for you. Next show has been scheduled for here in Albuquerque in February. I will have more details coming soon!

Balance original oil painting

“Balance”, 30 x 30″ oil on canvas, this is the piece I was just getting started on in the last post!

Aaron and I took a road trip up to Los Alamos and the Fuller Lodge Art Center yesterday to hang my show. In all, I finished 11 new paintings! The show is up now, but the official opening will be a part of their Holiday open house for the Affordable Arts show on December 6th from 10am-6pm. I will be there for a few hours in the later half of the day, probably 2-6pm. They will also be open all day on Black Friday. If you are in the area, or close by, please stop by and see the show and get a little of your Christmas shopping done! In addition to my art work, originals and prints, there are literally tons of artsy gifts to pick from. Lots of handmade local artist goodness. Whether you go to this show or not, please support local artists this holiday season by buying handmade art and gifts. πŸ™‚

Enjoy the photos of my show!

I can see the light….

..at the end of the proverbial tunnel! I have one blank canvas left to fill. Just in time! My deadline is November 20, so I technically have over two weeks left. There is still work to do once the painting is done, I have to finish and put hangers on. I am finishing them with my usual metal tape, not sure yet if they will be embossed or left plain. Time will tell. Here are a few images of the most recent paintings;

I have been super busy in the studio the last couple of weeks! Ramping up my painting time to get ready for a show in December at the Fuller Art Lodge in Los Alamos, New Mexico. I am aiming for 18 paintings for the show and so far I have 5 done and 5 more in progress.

Two months left to finish up the paintings I’m currently working on, plus 8 more! I really do work best under pressure, always have! I scheduled this show way back when in August of 2013, and this August I was reminded of it and thought, I guess it’s time to get to work!

Sunlight, the folk trio I play in with my husband, has taken quite a bit of my time lately. I haven’t spent as much time in the art studio as I usually do. It sure does feel great to get back to my paintings!

For a short time I had considered giving up painting completely to spend more time on the music, but I know there is no way that will ever happen. I love painting way too much. It has been refreshing to take the break though. Now, I feel inspired again! I’m excited about these new paintings, hope you like them! πŸ™‚

Recycled Record paintings are back!

painting on recycled vinyl

Arabian Dance, Paint pens on 12″ vinyl LP, $95

Today I took several of my recycled record paintings on vinyl over to Bright Rain Gallery. Before I left the house I checked on titles and realized I didn’t have them here on my website, at all! I have now remedied that situation and you can find them HERE or in the above Portfolio tab, under “Recycled Vinyl”. I am working on getting them back into my Etsy shop too. I have been super duper busy with getting my artwork out into galleries! Received word on Monday that my prints have been accepted into yet another gallery, Fuller Lodge Art Center, in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Now that I’m done with the records for Bright Rain gallery, time to get moving on printing and packaging prints for the new gallery! πŸ™‚
