Replenishing My Creative Reserves

I haven’t had any creative time this week. No new paintings in progress to show today. I’m replenishing my creative reserves and will be ready to get back to painting, probably tomorrow! I’ve been editing my story and taking photos of my old images from the early 1990s. The image above is one of many.

I’ve been negotiating a contract with a management/publishing company the past week or so, hoping to get that finished up soon. Emailing lawyers. Working on building my email list. Editing and posting my latest time lapse video. Writing, editing and sending out my end of the month email. Writing blogs. Sold a painting on my website. Visited the hospital. Lots of the “other” stuff going on in my life right now.

I drove for Uber yesterday, encountered my first unpleasant person, a racist, who was shockingly polite and asked me if I minded the N word! UMMMMM, YEAH, was my answer. I was shocked by the question. I was very happy to get him to his destination and out of my car!

In other news, I have been invited to participate in a group show at a new gallery in Downtown Albuquerque. The owner is an artist friend of mine. “Face-Palm Patriots” is an art show of works by Veteran Artists and donations will be raised for Heroes Walk Among Us, an Albuquerque organization working to get homeless vets off the streets and improve their lives. Helping homeless Veterans is one of my most important causes I give time and money to. My personal opinion is that NO Veteran should ever be homeless! They have served our country and they deserve to be treated as heroes. I am also a Veteran, so they are my brothers and sisters too.

The show is happening at the KD Neeley Gallery at 104 4th St NW, Albuquerque and the date of the opening is Veterans day, Saturday, November 11th, 7-10pm. I will show a few pieces at this gallery for the months of September and October as well. ๐Ÿ™‚ Please stop by and see Katie and tell her Paula sent you! My art work will be there next month. ๐Ÿ™‚

This Saturday is the day I pick up my paintings from the NM Cancer Center show (minus any paintings that sold), and some of those will go straight over to Katie’s gallery in Downtown.

Also, a reminder, I still have my latest guitar painting and vinyl record art hanging at the Sierra Club office here in Albuquerque. I have it on my “to do” list to get those pieces posted on my website for sale. 30% of sales will benefit the Rio Grande Chapter of the Sierra Club, until the end of that show, September 30th.

That’s all my news for now, hope you have a great weekend! Sign up for my email list at www.PaulaManningLewis.com and get exclusive access to my Summer Sale page for 50% off select paintings, recycled vinyl and prints!

One of Those Days

Even self employed artists have days like this. Nothing to do with my work, it’s a personal family thing. Even so, we all have days when we feel like we should have just stayed in bed. That’s how this day started. It’s all come out for the best in the end, as it usually does, but not before this day became one of those days.

I have a recent goal to blog every weekday. Days like today usually play havoc with goals like that. However, I am determined to see this goal through at LEAST a month before I take a day off. Really, I don’t want to take any day off. Hence, I sit here writing this right now.

I’m one of those people who beats themselves up if I don’t reach my goals. I know it’s silly, considering how many of my goals and dreams I’ve actually reached! I guess it’s my drive and self abuse that has brought me here. Though I know this, it’s still a struggle to give myself a break every once in a while.

Yesterday, I was all about getting my work done! I even went to a networking luncheon for two hours. Today, I was lucky I made it to the post office. There is also band practice this evening.

Since I don’t have any new photos to share with you all, I will share something from the catalog. This is one of my favorites, painted in 2015. This original painting is still available in my Etsy shop. The photo and caption are linked to the listing as well. “Radiate Love” reminds me to keep the love light shining no matter what happens in day to day life. Don’t sweat the small stuff as they say, because it’s all small stuff.

Print Clearance Sale

original oil painting Balance

I’ve been mulling over a big decision for over a year now and have decided it’s time! I’m discontinuing my art prints. They take up too much time and space, plus it seems everyone is leaving me behind in the 20th century with digital prints. It makes so much sense in this age of print on demand and everyone having high quality printers hooked up to their home computers.

Unfortunately, I have quite the stock of art prints, all matted and ready to go. To clear out more space in my studio, I’m currently having a Clearance Sale! 40% off on ALL of the art prints in my Etsy shop! All you need to do, is use the coupon code, PRINTCLEARANCE40, at checkout and you will receive 40% off! This sale ends on January 25th.

Once this sale is over, I am going to list print images in digital format. The coolest thing about this format is once you purchase your image, the download is immediate once your payment is made. No more waiting for the mail to come! There are a few pluses to this format, you can print any size you want (up to a certain size, depending on image size), you can use my art files for invitations, crafts like scrap booking or any other place you can think of. You can also take them to your local print shop and have your own wall prints made, on any paper you choose or on canvas!

The only limit is these images are available for personal use only. If you want to resell these images, you must first get my written permission and pay licensing fees. The copyright still belongs to me, you are purchasing the image only.

I’m also planning to bring back some older images that haven’t been available for some time. My Peace Series for one. Stay tuned….

Vacation is over!

My husband and I spent the last couple of weeks of July on vacation. We went camping and also spent some time in the family cabin in the mountains of Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Hiking and camping are two of my favorite things to do. I LOVE being outdoors in nature. So much so, it’s really difficult to come back to the city when our time is up.

Inevitably though, vacation has to end and we have to get back to work! Today, I am working on getting my art work out into the internet more. I found a really cool website that lets artists set up 3D exhibitions of their art. Below is the link…

Support Living Artists! Please! :)

We’ve all heard the myth of the starving artist, but I’m here to say it’s just that, a myth! Artists can and DO make a living with their creativity. I am living proof of that. However, that said, we could still use a bit of support now and then! I hate to toot my own horn but we are getting close to that most wonderful time of the year and mama needs a new pair of shoes! LITERALLY! After all the hiking and walking we did during our recent travels, my shoes have holes in the soles!

What better way to say, I love you, than with something handmade! I ask you to support small businesses and creative people this Holiday season. Don’t give your hard earned money to the big box stores! PLEASE! Keep it local and when you can’t do that, support LIVING artists! We are all local to somewhere! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a few artist friends that would probably appreciate the support so close to the holidays. Here is a list of some of my favorites and of course, there is also MY ETSY SHOP, with lots of colorful prints and paintings!

Cari Pier, of Sea Dream Art, makes lovely paintings and prints of her inspiring art. She is not only a great friend but her work inspires me to keep going! ๐Ÿ™‚

Elayne Russell, of MoonGipies, makes all kinds of whimsical recycled items and is a great photographer. She is another wonderful friend of mine!

William Reichard, is a fresh, new author with a brand new work of fiction for the bookworm on your list! You can find his book, This Album Full of Angles on Amazon.com in both kindle and paperback. Will is another friend and inspiration with his positive attitude and love for the written word.

Susan See, of Susan See Photography, has a great eye and I just adore her photography! She has inspired me recently with a move from Albuquerque to the midwest.

Last but definitely not least, my husband, guitarist extraordinaire, Aaron Lewis! He has several CDs of beautiful guitar music available and you can find him on iTunes and CDBaby.
