Been A While!

Happy New Year! Yes, I know, let’s just say I am cautiously optimistic about 2022. It has been a while, I apologize for not keeping in touch. When the Covid lockdown happened in March 2020, I decided to go back to college to complete my BA degree. I needed something to do during lockdown and thought I wanted to teach in the public schools. After four semesters, with three more to go, I had to give it up, I miss my art! Not to mention it was seriously stressing me out. I had a few paint parties in 2021, but I realized I didn’t need to get a degree to teach, because I was already doing it. I also decided, after watching my husband struggle through Covid as a public school teacher, I had no desire to teach in the public schools. I’m going to stick with teaching art on my own.
Starting this month, I will get back to my Paint Party classes and hope to get some online classes going as well. If you are interested in getting news about my classes, let me know and I will put you on my Paint Party email list.
The BIG news of 2021 is my new dream studio! In September 2021, construction began on my dream studio here at home in Mimbres. I have waited 30 years to achieve this dream. We built it in the old RV carport attached to the garage, because the roof was already there. As soon as construction started, I began getting antsy to make art again. I knew it would happen, but I had no idea how strong the urge would be! Now that it’s finished and I’m moved in, I’ve really enjoyed making art again. Other than a few paint party paintings, I had not worked on my art since March 2020.
At that time, I had begun working with oil and cold wax abstracts. I am so excited to finally get back to it. It has been years since I’ve had a dedicated (with heat/ac) space for making art, basically, since moving to Mimbres almost 4 years ago. For those of you who are local, I am planning an open studio event soon, so everyone can come see the space in person.
Another thing I am working on in January is updating my website. I have neglected it for years and it truly needs to be updated! I will send a link once the work is done.

Enjoy the photos I’ve included, they are highlights from 2021.

  1. I just got to see this myself. I’ve been sooo busy that I haven’t been on here as often as I used to be. Urrgggg!!! Honestly, ALOT of the artist friends I’ve had, etc. I don’t seem to see their posts, etc. It’s rather odd. Anyway, I think that you’re absolutely right as far as teaching goes. You can teach without a degree. A degree just helps is all…plus I’ve been looking for a job and can’t apply for any that require a degree. It’s rather idiotic seeing as how I have loads of experience and alot to offer this world. Although, all in all, I don’t know that I would be willing to give up my art. I’ve worked on it for so long. I just don’t see giving it up. I do hope that you’re still looking at this sometimes and run across this. I hope you have a very VERY happy Christmas Paula!!!
